Economic Council of the Municipality of Brod Discussed the State of the Public Sector and Key Issues of the Local Economy

At today’s session of the Economic Council of the Municipality of Brod, current issues concerning the operation of the public sector were discussed, with special emphasis on finding effective solutions to the current situation in the Public Utility Company “Komvod” a.d. Brod.

The management of Komvod informed the Council members about the company’s condition, and it was concluded that this issue should be included in the agenda of the next session, accompanied by specific proposals for overcoming the company’s operational challenges.

Mayor of Brod, Milan Zečević, stated that the problems within Komvod require special attention and will be emphasized in the coming period.

“I would like to thank the company’s management for preparing a detailed business projection analysis for the upcoming year. No matter how negative it may appear, it is important that we recognize the problems and, together with professionals and business people who understand the balance between profit and loss, identify a set of measures we can implement as soon as possible,” said Zečević.

President of the Economic Council, Gradimir Vukman, announced that the issue concerning the public utility company will also be addressed at the next session.

“We have been briefed on the current situation and the projections for next year. We received the materials that will enable us to continue working on this matter in the upcoming period,” Vukman stated.

Regarding the establishment of a duty-free zone, the Mayor noted that tomorrow the complete documentation, including resolved property and legal matters, the accompanying study, and expert opinions, will be submitted to the Ministry of Economy and Entrepreneurship of the Republic of Srpska.

“The Ministry will then coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Trade at the state level, and we hope that by the end of the year we will have an official decision on the establishment of a duty-free zone in Brod,” Zečević added.

The Council also reviewed information concerning the adjustment of childcare fees at the Public Preschool Institution “Beli Anđeo”, as well as updates on the ongoing Urban Plan development process.

“This involves the harmonization of cadastral and land registry data on parcels within the municipality of Brod, which is a strategic matter for the development of our community,” said the Council President, Gradimir Vukman.

Additionally, information was presented regarding the state of the economy and employment in Brod over the past year, the implementation and results of the 2025 Brod Fair of Economy, Agriculture, and Tourism, as well as the adopted budget rebalance for 2025 and related investments.

The Economic Council of the Municipality of Brod is an advisory body composed of representatives from the private sector, local government, public services, and civil society organizations. Its main objective is to create more favorable conditions for local economic development and to improve the overall quality of life within the municipality.

Representatives of the Chinese Corporation “Shandong Hi-Speed” Visit the Municipality of Brod

Representatives of the European branch of the Chinese company China Shandong International Economic & Technical Cooperation Group Ltd., which is part of the Shandong Hi-Speed Group Co., Ltd., visited the Municipality of Brod today.

During the meeting with Mayor Milan Zečević and the municipal leadership, held at the Municipal Administration offices, discussions focused on possibilities for economic and cultural cooperation, as well as potential joint projects of mutual interest.

The representatives of the Chinese company presented the corporation’s operations and portfolio, while the hosts showcased the numerous economic potentials that Brod has to offer.

In addition to economic cooperation, the meeting also addressed cultural collaboration, and as a first step, a visit by students from Brod to the Chinese Cultural Center in Belgrade was announced.

The delegation consisted of Zhang Jianchao, Deputy General Director of China Shandong International Economic & Technical Cooperation Group Ltd.; Guo Hengyan, General Director of the European Branch; Wang Yan, General Director of China Shandong Hi-Speed Qianfang International Technology Co., Ltd.; and Hu Mingzhuang, Business Manager at the same company.

The Shandong Hi-Speed Group operates in more than 22 provinces across China and in over 100 countries worldwide, ranking among the top 500 Chinese enterprises.

The visit of the company’s representatives to the Municipality of Brod is a result of the contacts established by Mayor Milan Zečević during his previous two visits to China.

Economic Potentials of the Municipality of Brod Presented at the Economic Forum of Republika Srpska and the Republic of Tatarstan

As part of strengthening economic and trade ties between Republika Srpska and the Republic of Tatarstan, the President of the Chamber of Commerce of Republika Srpska, Goran Račić, and the Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Tatarstan signed a cooperation agreement on Wednesday, July 23, in Banja Luka.

This agreement represents a significant step toward enhancing bilateral economic cooperation between the two republics.

Following the signing ceremony, the Republika Srpska – Republic of Tatarstan Economic Forum was held, featuring more than ten domestic companies from the agriculture and food processing sectors. The forum also included a series of bilateral meetings, during which representatives of the Tatarstan delegation had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with ten local communities from Republika Srpska.

The Municipality of Brod was represented at the forum by Mihaela Malešević, Head of the Local Development Department, who presented in detail the economic potentials of this local community. During the presentation, the efforts made by the municipality to attract investments were highlighted, as well as the numerous benefits and opportunities Brod offers to potential investors.

The main goal of the forum was to showcase the economic potentials of Republika Srpska, with a focus on establishing and strengthening investment cooperation with the Republic of Tatarstan.

The event was attended by high-ranking officials, including the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Igor Kalabukhov, the Head of the Republika Srpska Representation in Moscow, Duško Perović, the Prime Minister of Republika Srpska, Radovan Višković, ministers from the Republika Srpska government, and numerous entrepreneurs.

At this forum, the Municipality of Brod further emphasized its strategic importance as an attractive investment destination, thereby contributing to the promotion of economic development and regional cooperation.

Verification visit completed: Municipality of Brod on the way to the second BFC SEE certification

The Municipality of Brod has successfully completed another significant stage in the process of certification of cities and municipalities with a favorable business environment in Southeast Europe (BFC SEE – Business Friendly Certification South East Europe).

Yesterday, a verification visit was held in the premises of the Municipal Administration by an international commission consisting of: Mišel Pavlica (Republika Srpska), Jovica Damnjanović (Serbia) and Petar Trpčevski (North Macedonia).

The visit was also attended by Olivera Radić and Svjetlana Kević Zrnić, as representatives of the Chamber of Commerce of the Republika Srpska, which is an accredited institution for the realization of the favorable business environment certification program in the Republika Srpska.

During this phase of the process, the commission analyzed the compliance of the local self-government with the requirements of this internationally recognized standard, which includes ten complex criteria and a total of 62 sub-criteria, including 15 elimination ones.

The municipality was obliged to submit 35 numerical indicators, as well as six examples of good practice. The key condition for obtaining a certificate is the fulfillment of at least 75% of all criteria, with mandatory fulfillment of all elimination criteria.

The BFC SEE certification process takes place through several stages, and the verification visit, which included a detailed analysis of the submitted documentation and an assessment of the fulfillment of standards, represents the final check.

The evaluation commission determined that the Municipality of Brod fulfilled 83.85% of all prescribed criteria, which confirms the continuous work on creating an efficient, predictable and attractive business environment.

The verification visit was attended by Mayor Milan Zečević, Head of the Department for Economy and Social Activities Draženka Duronja, Head of the Department for Local Development Mihaela Malešević, as well as members of the Certification Program Implementation Team led by coordinator Boro Grabovec.

In order to comprehensively assess the business environment, the members of the commission also held a meeting with the president of the Economic Council of the Municipality of Brod, Gradimir Vukman.

Mayor Milan Zečević emphasized the commitment of the Municipal Administration to focus on the promotion of the economic potential of the municipality in order to attract domestic and foreign investors, and expressed his belief that the renewal of the BFC SEE certificate will contribute to the achievement of the set goals.

Second Installment of Agricultural Subsidies Begins

The Finance Department of the Municipality of Brod has announced that the second of a total of three installments of subsidies for agricultural production has begun today, in accordance with the Public Call conducted during 2024.

The funds have been distributed evenly among all registered subsidy recipients across all areas of agricultural production. For 2025, a budget of 200,000 convertible marks (BAM) has been allocated to support farmers.
